Mine Owner's House, c. 1861. The mine owners lived in the largest, most fashionable houses, located away from the miners' cottages and the colliery buildings. Richard Sharpe's Gothic Revival house was the last constructed and largest of the residences. The home apparently was comfortably furnished and, in addition to the Sharpe family, housed their three servant girls and gardener.
